TEFL in Poland

Posted by Erin MacKenzie - 15:48 on 19 March 2010

British newspapers tend to carry more adverts for teaching jobs in Poland than any other country. The demand for English speakers is huge and with many opportunities in the major cities such as Krakow and Warsaw you should have no problem finding work as long as you are TEFL qualified and have some level of teaching experience. You could be working with young children, teenagers or adults in state schools, private schools, universities, private language schools or even in the business sector.

While a salary of 2,500 PLN (£570) may sound low considering the cheap living costs in Poland you should manage to quite easily afford good accommodation with enough left to spend enjoying yourself. Saving, however, can be difficult on the average wage but some teachers chose to teach private lessons in order to enable them to put some money away.

There shouldn’t be a shortage of things to do if you’re in the city with museums, theatres and pubs being plentiful and easily affordable. Food and drink is cheap compared to in Britain and your wages will be enough to allow you to regularly go out with a pint of beer costing a meagre 4PLN (£1)!

It was interactive, interesting, hands-on. I learnt a lot. Elaine White, Assistant Headmistress, Dewsbury
