TEFL in Hong Kong

An official contract with the Hong Kong government means you can expect to earn a wage of £1,220 teaching English or more in addition to benefits. The scheme means you could be placed in any government school in Hong Kong where work can be tough particularly in lower band schools with low-achieving students. While it isn’t as easy as it used to be for British nationals to go and work in Hong Kong, those with a university degree, experience and sponsorship shouldn’t have any difficulty obtaining a work permit.
The most affordable accommodation can be found on islands such as Lamma and Lantau where you can rent a flat or even house for £400 per month – the only downside to this can be an hour-long commute but thankfully public transport is cheap. Living in Hong Kong’s busiest areas is very expensive and flats can cost £1,000 which is more than the majority of teachers could afford.
Accommodation may be expensive but food, clothes and travel are far from it meaning that you can afford to spend plenty of time eating out and getting to know the locals! There is so much to keep you busy while you are in Hong Kong such as sports, restaurants and film so there will be plenty of activities to fill your spare time!

“Relaxed but informative teaching style. Felt inclusive to all. Good purpose & structure to the day. Gave you a more in-depth knowledge of what is required to prepare and take a class of differing ages & abilities. Helps build confidence in performance. ” Kieran McTague, Journalist, Bedfordshire
