TEFL in Belgium

A university degree and a TEFL certificate are typically needed in order to work in Belgium. Salaries can range from 1,000 to 1,800 Euros per month but living costs in Belgium compared to wages are quite high. You can expect to spend about 1,100 Euros a month on living expenses so your wages should enable you to get by but you probably won’t have much money to be putting away in savings. Most of the work available is in private language and international schools as few state schools employ native English speakers.
As Belgium is a member of the EU, working in the country for British nationals shouldn’t be too problematic. However, anyone who does not live in an EU-member country will have to gain a work permit in order to legally work in Belgium and because of this working in the country can be made a lot more difficult.
The capital, Brussels, is a gorgeous city with a vibrant arts scene and is full of medieval and art nouveau architecture. The country itself is rich in history, having been ruled by almost every major power that has existed in history and Brussels is home to numerous museums. Almost 10% of the population is made up of foreigners so you shouldn’t feel too out of place! Belgian cuisine is held in high regard and is said to be one of the finest in Europe and the country is, of course, famous for its chocolate which is considered the best in the world.
