TEFL in Kazakhstan

In 2007 the Kazakhstan government prioritised English in the education budget. Kazakhstan’s strong economy is the reason behind this initiative – the government considers it important that the population is able to speak English in order to integrate Kazakhstan into the global economy.
This is good news for English teachers who can find jobs that pay good wages and come with accommodation and paid airfares in the country. It is likely that you will need a degree and a TEFL certificate if you intend on teaching in Kazakhstan and jobs exist perhaps mainly in the cities but there are also plenty of schools in the country that seek native English speakers.
The cost of living in Kazakhstan is high but a decent wage should allow you to live reasonably comfortably and benefits such as free accommodation help greatly. A lot of people in Kazakhstan have a great interest in western culture so it is likely that you will be inundated with requests for teaching people English when you are just walking about! This can be a great way to make friends and a bit of extra money. When visiting and living in another country it’s only polite to make the effort to understand the culture. Being respectful will go a long way when it comes to making friends and even trying to pick up a little bit of the language will help greatly.
