TEFL in Portugal

English teachers in Portugal are in demand partly due to the country’s improved economic status over the last few decades. In the business world particularly there is an increasing need for English speakers. There is work available teaching English all over Portugal throughout the year in cities, by the coast and in the countryside. Most teachers find work through advertisements and International House but there is plenty of work to be found elsewhere. Cambridge Schools group employs up to 100 native English speakers a year and there are many international chains such as Wall Street Institutes which provide employment across the country.
The cost of living in Portugal is one of the cheapest in the EU so an average salary of €700- €1,000 per month certainly won’t leave you struggling to make ends meet! There are many jobs available in the north of Portugal but wages are considerably higher in the cities where the job market is more competitive.
Living is reasonably cheap and on average you can expect to pay about €150 on food and drink during the month. Accommodation rates can range between €300 and €500 a month. With an excellent climate, relaxed attitude and cheap living costs, Portugal is a very appealing place to live and work.
