TEFL in Ukraine

The demand for native English speakers in Ukraine exceeds the supply so TEFL teachers should not have trouble finding work. After the Soviet Union collapsed, Ukraine, which had previously been thriving, struggled greatly and it has only been recently that the country’s economy has began to greatly grow. An estimated 50% of the population live in poverty and with unemployment levels high, anyone motivated by money is not likely to find suitable work in Ukraine. However, with a rich history and culture and wonderful people, Ukraine can be attractive to some TEFL teachers who want to help contribute towards the learning of English in a struggling country.
Anyone with a TEFL certificate shouldn’t have any trouble finding a job but there is also work available to those who do not have teaching qualifications. Most of the jobs can be found in the capital, Kiev, but some are also available elsewhere in the country. While it is possible to get a tourist visa changed while in the country, there can be a huge amount of paperwork involved. This can be avoided if you find a position through the international press as most schools will arrange your visa for you.
The average salary is £300-£600 for someone with little experience and most of these wages will go towards accommodation which can be expensive in the capital although other living costs are relatively inexpensive. More highly qualified teachers may find better paid work.

“I thought the activities were extremely fun, interesting and detailed. The tutor was also very upbeat and great to learn from - it was an excellent environment. I would recommend this course to anyone thinking of teaching a foreign language abroad. ” James, News Correspodent, Manchester
