Name: Ian James
Age: 23
What were you doing before?: Teaching guitar
Course: Birmingham weekend TEFL course in June 2009

I decided I wanted to get a job teaching English abroad because of my passion for travelling and experiencing life among different cultures. Plus it's something a little different and interesting.

After completing my TEFL England weekend course and searching for jobs on the internet, I managed to get a job teaching English in a private language school in Zhangjiagang, China. I've been here for a month now. I'm teaching all ages from 3 year olds to adults and am finding the work very rewarding.

Zhangjiagang (near Shanghai) is a great city and is renowned for being one of the cleanest in China, and the staff and people here are fantastic, so I'm having a great time.

I'm delighted with my choice to do the TEFL England course because not only did I learn loads useful stuff, but it also gave me the impetus and confidence to get a TEFL job abroad.

It was interactive which made it a really fun and interesting way to learn. We learnt the theory first then got plenty of chances to put it all into practice. By the end I felt more confident about teaching an English language class. Deborah Wright, Unemployed, Cheshire
