Location
Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world by land area and very ethnically and culturally diverse. A country of many contrasts, the terrain ranges from arid deserts, hills and deltas to snow-capped mountains. The city is located at the point where the Kargala and Ilek rivers meet, surrounded by flat steppe, low hills and lush countryside.
The name Kazakhstan is a derivation of an ancient Turkic word meaning "independent, a free spirit", which gives you a flavour of the country and its people.
The government continues to encourage the teaching of English to help boost the economy, which has shown significant growth since 2000.
