Volunteering in Sri Lanka
This is the perfect opportunity to volunteer in some of the most rural parts of Sri Lanka. You will be helping children from some of the neediest Sri Lankan communities and using your TEFL skills to have a meaningful and worthwhile experience.
Requirements of Position:
- TEFL England qualification
- No degree needed
- Preferably native English speakers
About the position
Volunteer positions are available all over Sri Lanka, in the rural parts of the north, south, east and central areas. TEFL volunteers are required to stay and teach for around 3 months, although this is can be flexible, and will start from January/February 2011.
There is no placement charge for these positions, flights are not included and you will need to take your own spending money. A payment of £20 per week is required to be paid to the host family for the cost of general living and food. Airport pick up is included.
You will be teaching in state schools across Sri Lanka and the children will range from the ages of 7-18 years old. These students will have a very basic level of English with some complete beginners. You will generally be working for 20 hours per week but this can depend on the age group that you are teaching.
You will be working alongside the native Sri Lankan English teacher, both contributing ideas and assisting each other during lessons. Another English speaking volunteer will be working and living with or near you, so you can share and exchange ideas/advice.
