TEFL Volunteer Jobs In London
TEFL England is currently recruiting qualified English teachers for volunteering positions in London.
You would be working mainly with refugees, with most of the current group coming from the horn of Africa, most notably Somalia and Eritrea. Volunteering in positions like these can be an immensely rewarding experience as you help students adjust to life in the UK and access opportunities of which they would not otherwise be able to take advantage. Volunteering with TEFL is also an excellent way to gain valuable experience, which can not only help you when applying for jobs but build your confidence and skills in TEFL.
All of the roles require a weekly, term-time commitment (plus some preparation) for at least a term and, ideally, an academic year. The roles are based in Tooting, Southwest London easily accessible by Tube (Northern line: Tooting Broadway) and are currently scheduled as follows:
Tuesday evening, 6pm – 7.30pm: teaching everyday and conversational English to a small group of parents with varying levels. A willingness to fit class content around the demands and interests of the participants is essential.
Wednesday evening, 6.30pm-8.30pm (flexible): teaching English to a small group of young people (principally 16-21 years) who are newly arrived in the UK and some of whom have little experience of formal education. A willingness to fit class content around the demands and interests of the participants is essential.
Thursday evening, 6.30pm – 8.30pm: teaching English to a small group of teenagers in an informal, youth club setting, where the focus may shift between conversational English and English for the classroom. A willingness to fit class content around the demands and interests of the participants is essential.
